YOGA AND BODY DETOXIFICATION

Are you not keen on knowing how your body can be detoxified? Yes, there are many means to do that. Before that you should know why body detoxification should be done at all. The diet you take, the environment you live in, and the emotional changes in your mind can cause toxins to accumulate in your body. It is natural that toxins get accumulated in the body and removal of such toxins is the detoxification of the body. One such means of detoxification of the body is yoga.

The approach of yoga in removing the toxins from the body is by means of meditative techniques and other practices. The body detoxification is done by means of shatkriyas or shatkarmas as they impact various parts of body to prevent any accumulation of toxins. It is really a wonder that the sages who lived thousands of years back knew of the effect of yoga on the human body and its optimum health. Hatha yoga achieves the body detoxification with the help of various asanas, mudras, pranayamas, and bandhas. These techniques work on the energy flows and remove any blocks that facilitate accumulation of toxins. Other body detoxification techniques such as stomach wash, nasal irrigation, and enema help in preventing ageing and diseases.

The techniques of yoga help in detoxification at the mental and spiritual levels also as they increase the pure blood flow to the brain and relax the mind. Yoga compresses and stretches each part of the body which suits the removal of toxins from the body. Yogic breathing has a vital role in body detoxification. It has been established that poor posture prevents the lungs from full inflation and any stress leads to clenched diaphragm which leads to lack of oxygen during inhalation and accumulation of carbon dioxide. When you are able to breathe fully and the diaphragm gets its natural flexibility, the organs in the abdomen get massaged and lungs empty the carbon dioxide fully.

Some of the asanas of yoga that help in body detoxification are:

Legs up the wall: This asana stimulates the digestive parts of the body and increases the pure blood flow to the organs of the abdominal cavity.

Downward facing: When you perform this asana, circulation of blood and lymph fluid increases to the various parts of the body. It also aids the abdomen to increase the digestion of food and removal of toxins.

Marichi’s Twist: This asana presses and massages the organs in the abdomen and it helps in better digestion and flushing out the toxins. This is done by means of deep breaths, gentle squeezes, and many variations.

Viparita Karani: This is yet another asana by which the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids increases. When you rest on the back, the nerves are relaxed and the body eases out.

Apart from these, there are other exercises such as neti which cleans the nose and enhances the function of the nose, dhauti that cleans organs like ears, tongue, scalp, and stomach, and trataka that improves the vision.

These yoga poses can be practiced daily for body detoxification and the benefits of such asanas will add to your emotional and physical well being. If you are able to flush out the toxins and blocks from your system, you will get clear mind and in turn a healthy body.
